First, it hurts, then, it changes you…

The darkest nights are when the stars shine brighter.

Almost everyone has faced difficulty we know nothing about. Pain (very unpleasant circumstances) can be a great motivator for people to change. Some people never change until they feel a little pain. Something in their life must be uncomfortable, or unacceptable, before they will consider doing something new, unfamiliar or different.
