What to do when you are at a crossroads in your life

Crossroads simply means a decision point; a turning point or opportunity to change direction, course, or goal. It is a place of decision, that will affect the course of one’s life.

Everyone encounters crossroads in life. Life’s crossroads create an opportunity for us to choose between different options. This can be really challenging, especially for the faint-hearted.

Life is a journey; there are stops along the way. You must be very careful during these periods of stops, because the decisions you will make are not expected to be easy. This is due to the fact that crossroads involves major changes, and you’re about to veer off into something new.

It is very important to know who you are at times like these, and what truly matters to you. This is necessary, so as to be clear about the steps you will take.

When confronted with big life decisions or changes, how do you handle them? In such moments, we are often apprehended with the feeling of loss. This can be scary, and yet awe-inspiring, in the sense that you’re presented with an opportunity.

People get to a crossroads, when they find themselves in situations whereby they feel stuck, drained, for a long period of time. During this period, you feel there is no repose in sight.

Sounds awful, right?

In order not to veer off into a wrong course in times of crossroads, you need to ask yourself certain questions, like:

  • What part of my life needs more stability?

  • What other areas of my life might be affected by this change?

  • What is that thing you will never compromise?

  • Is this change in line with the values that are closest to your heart?

Making the right decision can really pay off in the most rewarding ways, but what if it is the wrong choice? Things could get chaotic, and you will be filled with regret/self-pity.

Perhaps, you are stuck in your job, and the need for a change in career arises, or your ill-health is making things complicated for you. Maybe you feel a very important relationship in your life has run its course. In situations like these, what do you do?

It is at these final junctions, that we need to make firm decisions about matters that might have far reaching consequences, and a long-lasting effect in our lives.

These choices often cause a lot of panic, anxiety, and uncertainty, because we know there is a lot at risk, and we might be criticized unfairly, if the choices we make turns out badly. But you must take a stand, and trust in the decisions you make.

So, North or South, which course will you choose? East or West, which path will you take?

The choice is yours.

  2. Yes! I need a change. And I understand that I’m not living in the past. But I think I have a lot of trouble with my subconscious. I’ve had so many restarts for jobs in my life, I’m exhausted! Someone I respect and care about is suggesting that I build up my writing skills. I don’t quite know how to do that. Plus I don’t know if I can spend so much time on another dead end. Even though it has been a dream of mine since I was young. I don’t know if I have the courage anymore.

  4. As said , when you do what your intuitive mind inspires you to do, it feels like the flow of the universe naturally …
Self-reflection and insight is a journey of self-discovery to see your natural talents and divinely given abilities …My Grandma ( God bless her and all people ) used to tell me a saying like look for  the advice of a thousand people and disagree to 1 thousand people but return to your inner divine self for guidance …
شاور الف وخالف الف وارجع لمشورة نفسك …
Joseph Campbell said:” Follow your bliss and the universe would open doors for you where there were only walls. “

  7. when i had covid 19, i was hospitalized and knowing this illness, you must be confined in isolation. the only way you can talk with your loved ones is through a vidcall. From that awful experience, realizations came in to me. My heart wants to go home and my mind is battling if I could survive the sudden change. It is between giving up my job overseas and start a business in my homeland with my family…
reading this article helped me and thank you for that… i know for sure what i want… to be with my family… ❤️❤️❤️

  9. Very well expressed…life is all about decisions ..choices one makes… unfortunately not many are pro-efficient in the art of decision making and look for support at the first opportunity…

  10. Great post, I find the hardest choices are that of head or heart. It’s easier to take the comfortable or familiar choice, but sometimes the difficult choice has a better long term outlook.
