Your Life is like a Puzzle – Only You Can Place all the Pieces Together

Life is a puzzle

Jigsaw puzzles are one of those things you either love or hate. One of the reasons we love solving puzzles is the great satisfaction we feel when things fit together. For others, the chaos is just too much, and so, they easily give up.

Solving a puzzle is similar to solving real time problems. You have to be prepared for a certain amount of trial and error, and this can be frustrating.

The most surprising part of solving a puzzle is when you know exactly what the piece will look like, and still, you are unable to find it.

We all have times in our lives that don’t seem to make any sense; periods that are dark and difficult, filled with anger, confusion, or sadness.

Life is like a massive jigsaw puzzle, with a picture that is tricky to put together. Life will give you a hard time until you are able to figure it out. But the good news is, all the pieces we need in order to solve the puzzle are available to us.

We all experience problems every now and then. We are here to learn who we are. For those who are struggling with so many things in life, solving the puzzle may seem difficult.

Some people do battle with the feeling of “emptiness“. In spite of having almost everything they could ask for, they are not happy with their life.

We sometimes feel our journey is meaningless. I think this might be as a result of the difficulties that comes with finding our own path.

Sometimes, we feel we have lost pieces of the puzzle through the choices we made. Even if you had lost a piece of your life-puzzle in the ocean, you have to believe it is possible to retrieve it. Your life can be put back together again.

Most of our experiences serve to prepare us for something we may not yet understand. But as time goes by, you will realize certain experiences in your past actually fit into the overall picture of your life.

Although we live in a world that offers us an endless number of pieces to choose from. Some of the pieces are good, some are not so good. It is how you put these pieces together that matters.

The pieces that we consider “not suitable”, are the ones that fit perfectly, sometimes.

Some of us can’t count the number of times we have tried every piece that fits the image in our mind, and none works. Only to try in frustration one that can’t possibly fit, and it worked.

Some pieces may seem like the right choice to make at the moment, but they won’t be. You may have put puzzles together, only to realize at the very end, that something, somewhere, was completely wrong.

Your life is a puzzle

We are likely to learn a new lesson in life with each passing day. You might not be aware of it right now, but in the long run, you will realize that everything that has happened to you and the way you handled the situation is what made you the person you are today.

I think it is important to understand what we are supposed to learn from our good and bad experiences, and how they can be apply as we move forward.

For some people, life can be quite simple, like a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle. For others, however, it might take more time, and effort, to find the missing pieces and place them where they belong.

Is there a constant void, and you are unable to enjoy your life? Do you feel life is a pointless exercise?

Honestly, we tend to get ourselves worked up. We naturally love to ponder over negative thoughts.

You want to put the map of life together. You want to have it figured out. The truth is, there isn’t much to figure out. Jigsaw puzzles take time to put together and so does life. Trying to make sense of life is a tedious task.

The moment you piece together the picture of your beautiful life, the world will fall into place.

I believe no matter who or where you are, there is always room for exploration, for adventure. Life can be a worthwhile journey.

I think the moment you find something that inspires you, life will immediately transform from a boring, colourless map to an exciting, colourful picture.

The paintbrush is with you, not the Freethinker. Put splashes of beautiful colours  on your life’s canvas. Don’t leave it blank.

The clock is ticking at the same speed for everyone. Some of us are engaged in things that fulfills us; enjoying every moment, while some are lamenting about the dark and ugly side of life. Whatever side you are on is a choice. You can tune into a different channel at any time. It is completely up to you.

Build your life just as you would a puzzle; piece by piece, section by section. With each mistake, you learn how to play the game.

Don’t give up when a puzzle seems hopeless

Your life may be a simple puzzle with a hundred different pieces, or a more complicated one, with a thousand pieces. Either way, it is possible to solve that puzzle.

  1. For me life’s meaning comes from what meaning I apply. If I seek meaning life will seem to be a mystery that needs to be solved. But Alan Watts once pointed out that we don’t dance to get to the other side of the dance floor or to get somewhere. We dance to the song that’s playing because we can without any need for explanation. I like that. We are the solution and the answer. Like this blog, lots to think about. Thanks

  2. When the night comes or the sky turns gray ,
The sky showers us to grow and stay ,
alive and happy in every way ,
To God we sway , that every sun ray ,
Would shine again and clear the clouds away ,
So you could see to  never get astray ,
Divinity gets us to pay ,
attention that everything we get  through ,
has a silver lining every  night
    and   day …
    You say good morning ,
“Tommorow is another day ” for a melody to  play …

  3. GREAT article. This puzzle analogy reminds me of something C.S. Lewis wrote, comparing our various human thoughts and emotions to the keys on a piano… All the keys are good and beautiful when played at the right time and in the right combinations and at the right intensity. It is when they are played out of the proper order or certain keys are played too loudly or quietly that we have problems. In your analogy, this would be like jamming together puzzle pieces that simply don’t fit– and expecting the picture to still be beautiful.

  4. At Christmastime, with the family all gathered for a week, we worked on a challenging jigsaw of ten dogs. (Just imagine all that fur on hundreds of pieces!) But with a number of us working together, it was fun, not frustrating. Such is life. It’s so much more pleasurable when we share life with others–especially people of faith who can encourage, support, and offer wisdom. Puzzling through difficulties and uncertainties becomes easier when we allow others to help!

  5. Great work; I love the idea of the pieces of the puzzle returning to us from the ocean’s cycle. I can be in the Bronx river or the Hudson or even Orchard 🏖 and I recall in my mind the Negro speaks of rivers: I am floating down the Nile and the Euphrates; as the waterways are connected and the puzzles 🧩 are the strands and cordage that can either tear or unite the species. Langston Hughes was aiding your writing unbeknownst to the Freethinkers, 🤫 please don’t tell them.🙏♒️🐕🎱👌🏿

  6. Wonderful post and beautiful metaphor. I like that like a jigsaw the more pieces you have in place the easier it becomes. Resonates on so many levels. Thank you

  7. Well articulated and I agree with your thoughts. Recently me and kids solved a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle. The last bit was a little daunting as it was a sky background. So all pieces looked same. But it gave us such a sense of satisfaction on completion.
The same analogy can be applied to life and its challenges too.
