What a pleasure it is to read.
Walking into a bookshop may seem magical to some people. To see the shelves neatly lined with books, is like staring at the wonders of the world, all in one place.
Books are a portal to other worlds. Thousands of stories at your fingertips. The smell when you open a new book. Staring at a bookshelf is like hearing a thousand voices calling at you, ready to unravel the secrets of the universe to you.
Many people do not realise the power of a book. Those who enjoy reading, can not imagine a life without books. Reading is a form of survival to them.
A book will wait until you are ready, and then hold you prisoner. From the day we discover our first story, we are transported into a different world. The one that takes you to an island, a magical garden, or into the deep, blue sea; one full of incredible fancies.
From reading of simple books, such as those with pictures and colours, to reading of complex books, there is always something to learn, to enjoy.
We devour these books without hesitation. Any other thing can wait, but not the book we are holding. We look forward to the next page, and can’t seem to put them down.
I have read a lot of books by great authors, from Napoleon Hill, to Norman Vincent Peale, to Thomas .J. Stanley and Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Books are a great source of inspiration, and help to distract us, when we are under a lot of stress.
Some people have not read a non-fiction book since leaving high school.
Honestly, one of the best ways to develop yourself, during this period, is through reading of books. Most of the answers we seek for, are in a book.
It lies in there…
If people become aware of the Power of the Written Word, I think they wouldn’t hesitate to pick up a book.
Books help us build a better future. They contain ideas, mysteries, knowledge. Think of it all, it is there in a book somewhere. Never underestimate the power of a great read.
Books can change lives. They help to improve your memory, and expand your vocabulary. Being eloquent can help boost your self-confidence.
Reading the right books, can open your mind to a new way of thinking. In other words, books are capable of overhauling one’s mentality. But you must be willing to pay attention to the words.
Books can be the greatest form of self-education. The problem is, many people don’t take the words in a book seriously.
If you want to do some exploration, there is a book somewhere, lying on the shelf. Let that book be your companion and guide.
Tips on how to benefit from a book:
- Read the title of the book carefully.
- Go through the table of content and the introduction.
- Don’t fail to read the subheading of each chapter.
- Read the details of each chapter with deep interest. It is good to make notes along the way.
Right now the books are calling, so I must go…
Books are an escape from this dreary world to one of wonder and magic. Your post is beautifully worded.❤️

Books are important nowadays because they make us see through ourselves while we delve into the mind of a character. Loved this!

This article remains me, my hostel days where every other roommates try to take a nap, I use that time by spending time in a library between plenty and plenty of books. I remember once, I was so much indulged in a book called Paulo coelho’ s- Veronica Decides to Die, I had been locked inside the library without my knowledge and somehow came out that day!! Books are really awesome once we realizes it. Thanks for sharing.

Agreed. Books teach us much more than mere experience. Because books tell us about how others see the same experience, hence broadening our mind and mindset.

When a friend wants to meet me for coffee, they always choose somewhere where there isn’t a bookshop nearby. Because they know I’ll be distracted along the way… and late for coffee 😛 😉

As the biggest bookworm in my land (or at least I like to think so 🤣), I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment. The power of books can never be doubted. Especially during these times when we’re cooped up at home, books can serve as portals into other worlds. I for one don’t know what I would have done if Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series wasn’t keeping me busy. Thanks for the post, and have a blissful day ahead.

I’m nodding my head in vigorous agreement as I read this post! A book is indeed the greatest treasure that the world is blessed with and the right book is the crowing jewel. What are you reading at this moment?

In the beginning was the word…I like to be a bit dramatic sometimes. But, just as you say, readers have to pay attention to the words. Somehow, way, way back, humans evolved; we made a giant leap when our brains suddenly formed and shared symbols, not just manipulated the tools to make them. Or so I read, somewhere! I love your post.

For me, every book is a chance to look at the world through a new lens. Even fantasy fiction, set in worlds crafted by other minds and governed by alternate laws of nature can be instructive. Whether it’s the more intangible lessons gained by contemplating a life with different challenges and gifts or concrete instruction in hard skills like building a water-tight canoe, there’s always something to discover.

Oh yes!!
You know what, the first book that I had read was a children’s copy of THE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. I can’t tell you how I fell in love with the book. Perhaps because of the illustrations.. or the beautiful tale itself that literally took me to another world.
Books actually performs some sort of a magic in me and maybe all of us.
My father was the one who instilled in me the the love for the books. And the funny thing is that… Sometimes he regrets it because when I go for shopping (books), that would mean that he would have to actually do the ‘Work From Malls’. It takes me atleast a whole day to purchase a book. But I wouldn’t return with just a book.
Writers like you make us feel nostalgic and inspire us even more.
Love to be a part of this wonderful writing community.!!!
